Search: “Bluetooth Lavalier Mic” on Amazon and you will find many listings of this mic. They all look the same, but are they? Some are branded, some are not. Does that matter? Today I will shed some light on these questions.

I purchased a cheap and cheerful Lavalier wireless mic at the start of 2022. You will see me use it in many of my YouTube videos. Prior to owning one, I filmed solely using the built-in mic of my Samsung S9+ Android Device.

I have since upgraded to a Samsung S10+. Besides the time when my first Lavalier mic broke during filming, and my upcoming videos where I compare wearing a mic to using my phone's built-in mic, you will no longer catch me filming without one.

Transitioning to a Bluetooth wireless mic was a great first upgrade. My voice sounded much louder and clearer when I wore one. I was particularly impressed with how well you could hear me while wearing it outside with traffic noise around me. As seen here.

My first Bluetooth mic lasted me about a year which is OK considering it only cost me $40 NZD including shipping. It came with a one-year warranty (note - I purchased this mic from a New Zealand Marketplace site called TradeMe, not Amazon). Although it lasted me about a year, I owned it for 1.5 years (should have worn it more often to get it replaced under warranty!) 😏

I probably could have gotten away with getting a free replacement when it recently broke on me, given how generous the seller was; Shortly after purchasing the mic, I let him know that it wasn’t working with my Samsung S9+ (buyer beware). He almost sent me a no questions asked replacement.

I held off until I received my S10+. Magically, the mic worked! I was honest and told the seller not to send me a replacement. Given the back-and-forth Emails, I wouldn’t want to bother him again to ask for a replacement 1.5 years later. He can keep the change! 🙂
